They range in taste and aroma from sweet to savory to pungent. References to the passages are provided for each of the Bible foods. Spices and herbs consumed as food in the Bible were used to flavor bread, cakes, meats, soups, stews, and were taken as digestive aids. Coriander, the seed of cilantro, is known today to be a powerful anti-oxidant with natural cleansing qualities.
People of the Bible ate many of today's most nutritious "superfoods" in this grouping of fruits and nuts. Pomegranates, for example, are believed to have highly beneficial anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and anti-tumor properties. God provided vegetables and legumes packed with nutrients, fiber, and protein to power the people of the Bible. Healthy grains were a primary staple in Bible times. Grains are some of the easiest natural foods to keep preserved for years. Seafood was another staple in the Bible. However, only certain fish and other seafood were suitable for eating.
According to Leviticus , edible seafood had to have fins and scales. Shellfish was prohibited. Today we know that fish such as Tuna, Salmon, Cod, Red Snapper, and many others are high in protein and healthy omega fats, which can help reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure, and provide many other health benefits. According to the book of Leviticus , clean meats are those from animals that have a cloven hoof and chew the cud.
Jewish dietary laws taught God's people not to eat the blood of animals or any meat that had been sacrificed to idols. Receive and settle down into your calling. As men, we can find ourselves having many projects, but no evident progress. We can be like a mechanic, working on ten different cars in the shop, but none of them are running well. Give yourself wholly to that, and then you will see great progress, the grace of God, the blessings, the favor, and the power that the Father has preordained for you to walk in.
Some pursuits may be a good thing, but not a God thing. Timothy had to settle down in his calling and run his course. So will you. Prayer: Father, I honor and glorify You. I know You have called me to do a mighty work in these times. Give me clarity on what my calling and purpose is. Help me also to let go of what is not of You. I ask for the courage and faith to settle down in my calling and run hard my course with an action plan from You. At a time David needed to remember his victories the most, he did. He defeated the lion, then the bear. When he faced Goliath, he spoke of what God did with the lion and the bear, which helped him have faith against Goliath.
There are some past victories God wants you to remember. You were in the paw of it, but the Lord brought you out, and you gave Him praise. He gave them to you for this purpose. Like David, remember your lion and your bear, so you can receive by faith that God will deliver you now also. Prayer: Father, thank You. I remember for the past victories. I remember the lion and the bear in my own life, and I remember I gave You praise for it. Sometimes it is hard for a man to open up and share the challenges he face, or what he is going through on the inside. However, this is the exact moment of silence that allows pride to create the downfall-experience itself see Proverbs A silent man will have no one to help him up or break his fall.
We fall into sin and now our relationship with God is suffering. We lost our home. We just divorced. Our daughter moved out unaware. Yet, no one knew. With all that was surrounding us, no one knew. Instead of helping you conquer, all we can now do is console. God desires to prevent your hardship, and at the same time, heal and reward your humble obedience to Him. Your confession will open the door to it. God will use someone to pray for you, share godly wisdom and help in your time of need. Your openness can prevent your trouble.
Prayer: Father, I will not be a silent man. You have surrounded me with other brothers that will help me stand. I rebuke any fear of judgment, and I will not walk in pride. My obedience to You will heal me, free me and reward me. In the heat your battle, whatever you are remaining in faith to obtain, God will surely prosper you.

As you follow His leading, you will receive what He promised. His Word, His ways and His plan works. Trust that you have a heritage of victory from God. I have the victory through Jesus Christ, and no weapon formed against me shall prosper or advance in my life. Since You work, Your word works. Your plan and Your leading works. I will dominate, not the weapon. This is my life-long heritage and portion. Thank You Lord in advance! Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.
He knew where the young man was beyond keeping the law, which was a good thing, yet there was one thing he lacked in the heart. There was one thing keeping the rich young ruler from becoming all that he was called to be. One thing keeping him from following Jesus all the way. We may be doing all the right things. We may be going to church. We may even be serving there. Yet, what about you?
Is there one thing lacking in your life? One thing could very well be keeping you from your greatest life. Be encouraged today that as Jesus invites you to come and follow him in a more deeper way, as he reveals and moves by the Holy Spirit on your heart regarding what is needed to follow him, that you obey him. Prayer: Father, thank You for speaking to me today. If there is one thing keeping me from following you completely Jesus, help me to let go and trust you.
Deal with my desires. Help me to submit to Your will Father and let You do what You desire in my life. You are a good God. He loves to help. If God can tell Noah how to build an ark, if He can give David wisdom on how to defeat his enemies, if the Lord can tell Esther what to say and do before the king to save her people, if He can tell Joshua how to bring down the mighty walls of Jericho, if Jesus can reveal to Peter that there was money in the mouth of a fish, an impartial God, a good God can and will show you what to do also.
It is free for any man in need of it, and the Father loves to provide it. No matter the pressure, complexity of your situation or decision, there will never be a time that He will fail to show you what to do. If You showed many in Your word what to do, You will show me what to do also. I will not worry, but believe. No preparation time is lost time. If a baby is born prematurely it could die, or be born but not be able to live.
A Different Devotional - Songs of Joseph
But the Lord has set a time for the baby to be in the womb and then the birthing comes. Let the Lord operate according to His timing and calling. As a loving Father, He will always make sure that you can handle what He has for you. David was tending sheep when he was called to be king. He also killed the lion and the bear, before he slayed Goliath.
There are some battles and some tests that are preparing you for another ahead. Jesus was prepared for 18 years until he stepped into full-time ministry. You have comforted me and giving me peace. Keep preparing me according to Your season and time. Never mind when I want it. Keep my motives right Father. Help me allow the Holy Spirit to keep shaping me.
The mercies of God are new every morning. Whether you made a mistake, hurt someone, or you completely made a mess of something in your life, He has new mercies available today for you.

The heart of God is nothing old for a new day! New mercies are able to eradicate old things, if you receive them. If we let new mercies do what God has intended them to produce in us, they will encourage us to leave yesterday behind. This mercy displays the great love and salvation found in Jesus Christ. Whatever you are going through, you are never too far gone.
As long as He gives you breath, receive His new mercies for a new day. Your compassion never fails. Because of Jesus, I am forgiven. Your hand of salvation reaches me wherever I am and revives me. Help me to completely receive Your new mercies this morning. Let Your mighty will be done in my life today. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands! Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow. Look around and see all that the Lord is doing for you. Be still and know that He is God. Keep the good in mind.
God is doing a great work in you, even now. His plans are coming to pass.
The Connection Devotional with Skip Heitzig
Your hurdles are to be jumped over and not allow them to keep you from running the race that Christ has already won. Prayer: Father, thank You for Your word. Thank You for speaking to me this morning. Help me to stay reminded of all the good that is happening in my life. It was built in a very awkward location and hard to reach off the main road. Well, it moved less than a mile away across the street, and now the store is thriving. Being in the right place is what made the difference. God told Abraham to go into a land that I will show you, and there is where I will bless you and make your name great.
When we are not where God has told us to be, we begin to experience hardship, and God provides no favor there. For some of us, we are simply in the wrong land. Some of us are at the wrong company, have started the wrong business, are serving at the wrong church, have settled in the wrong city, and are dating the wrong woman. If you want the perfect will of God, if you want to experience the blessings God has for your life, it starts with being your land. There is where God will abundantly bless you.
There is where you will become great and become the greatest blessing. Am I in the right place? Am I doing what You told me to do? I need to be where You want me to be, not where I think I should be or have been told by someone else. You saved me, and I have a right to enter into every one of Your promises. I refuse to be off course. Forgive me if I missed your direction.
Tell me where to go, and I will go, Lord. Get me into the right place, Your perfect will for my life. I praise You for it. Is it time to go to work in your life. There are some things in our lives we need to put down, and some things in our lives we need to pick up. Prayer: Father, You are good and faithful. Help me to go to work in my life. Give me the determination and diligence to be about Your business. In Jesus name, Amen. Reconciliation is taking place all throughout My Body. All that matters to Me is that you operate as one.
I am doing what only I can do by My Spirit. I am softening hearts. I am renewing minds. I am helping My people to see the need for unity. SSometimes our minds can be all over the place if we allow them to be, especially in the face of trials and challenges. We think about where we would be if we had more of something, what could have been, why did this happen, or what are we going to do now. This kind of thinking can cause you to be discouraged and full of worry, absent from living right now, absent from joy.
What you choose to think about is in your hands. Whatever is true, whatever is just or right, think on those things. Think on what is pure and holy before the Lord. Think on what is worthy to give God praise for. You may say that looking for something good happening in your life right now is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, but fight to find it.
The Lord of all never leaves us without hope. There is always something to be thankful for. Prayer: Father, thank You for helping me to think on good things. Help me to learn to think on what is good, honest, true and praiseworthy to You. I choose to be a man that thinks on good things. He already opened the door. He made the way. He cleared your path. Now you have to take a courageous step of faith in order to receive what He has for your life.
Obey God my brother. That vision inside is waiting on you. His blessings are waiting on you. Prayer: Father, thank You for meeting me where I am. You are with me. When someone tells you to hold on, what does that look like for you? Jesus says come and learn of me. Take the rope, tie it tight around your waist and it will uphold you. Hold on to your faith. Hold on to your prayer life and study of the word.
Hold on to His truth and His will for you. The enemy desires for you to let go of the very thing that got you here. He desires to pull you away from the very habits that keep you strong and constant. The enemy knows this is how you really hold on. This is how you really hold tight to God, and keep obeying Him. Prayer: Father, thank You for encouraging me to hold on. Help me to continue seek You and allow You to uphold me. I will hold on to Your promises. I will hold on to what You say about me. Give me strength. I believe I will see Your goodness in my life.
Using a camera lens, we can zoom in, zoom out, change lighting and make other adjustments to snap a picture. As good as the camera may be, it still requires focus to capture the shot we want. Our lives are as cameras that must be focused in order to accomplish what the Father has for us to do. The bridge between you and your purpose is your focus. As men, some of us can find ourselves being easily distracted losing our focus on the primary tasks before us. God has an amazing purpose for your life, and with some focus, you can experience the perfect will of God.
You will see the prize of your goals obtained. What you focus on, you will capture. I get overjoyed when I think about Your plans for me. Help me to stay focused. I have the mind of Christ. By Your power, I ask for a focused heart. I ask for Your direction, and I receive the focus necessary to carry out Your will. I thank You for receiving what You have for me. Sometimes, He is simply shaping patience in you. Patience produces priority in our lives. It establishes what is more important and needful for us. Patience produces the right perspective.
It humbles our hearts to be thankful and content in God alone. Above all, God is working in you the attribute of humility, to where when He blesses you with what you desire, you are able to handle it. Let patience have her perfect work in you. Like being in the next room in your home, know that God is in another room, working on something needful in you that you may not be aware of.
He is preparing a woman for you that you are not aware of. He is building and preparing you for great things. Prayer: Father, You are a good God and I have to admit, my faith is being tested and You are teaching me how to be patient. It is hard, yet it is doing an invaluable work in my life. It is important to know the character of God. He is love. He is merciful and good. Whatever He speaks, He always keeps His word. He chastises those that He loves as a father does a son. He never disappoints. The Almighty is righteous, holy and just.
He is wise. He is patient. He is unchanging. If His word is settled in heaven, it is settled about you. God is not shady. What you read about God in scripture is Who He is. If He said He is for you, He is truly for you my brother. Prayer: Father, I am thankful I know Your character. You are good. You are faithful. You are true. You said it and You will do it. I can rejoice and have peace. You will finish what You have started in me.
You will be good to me. We may not how, but we know He will. Praise Him for what He has already spoken about your outcome. Praise Him now. Praise the Lord for His peace and assurance that if you are going through something, it too will pass. Praise Him for providing the power to accomplish His will. Let your praise keep you focused on the greatness of your God, and keep you preparing for it. Let your praise declare to the enemy that no matter what, you have put your faith in God. You have decided to stand on His word. Before He even does it, before He even blesses you, praise Him now!
Thank you Jesus. I praise you for the many blessings in store. Help me, on purpose, to open my mouth and praise You. In Jesus name, Amen! Yet, God was there. He has been the best Father to me more than I could ever imagine. Think about what your heavenly Father has done for you. He has given you victories, and He has also carried you through the toughest times of your life. He told you that you could do it. Be reminded of how God has been a Father to you and allow Him to help you be the best father you can be.
He has blessed you with the greatest honor and privilege to be a father—a valuable component to the family structure of God. You are the guide of the home, the leader, protector and provider. You are built to handle tough situations, and lead your family through it. A father loves and ministers to his wife and children in every way. You make sure your home is happy. Your children thrive at your wisdom and your voice of encouragement when you tell them they can do it.
God has been the best Father to you. Be the best father for your family. Obey God and may you find joy in leading your family to victory. Thank You for giving one Son for another, and You saved me. Thank You for keeping me and providing me with everything I need to be a great father to lead my family. Help me to love them like You and be the best father I can be.
When You Can't See God's Plan - Connect with Skip Heitzig - Week of July 5, 12222
They are the ones that ultimately cause the damage. That little unforgiveness or offense is what leads to a root of bitterness and keep you from being free. Begin to focus on handling the little foxes in your life. As soon as you see it, deal with it. You want your marriage to be strong and blessed. Prayer: Father, I give You all the praise today. Thank You for speaking to Me about handling the little foxes in my life. Other people may not see them in my life, but You do. Reveal them to me and help me get them out.
I want a blessed and healthy marriage. I want every area of my life to prosper and grow. The workplace can be a very stressful place. There are stressors pertaining to performance, promotion, job security, and production goals. You are too blessed to be stressed. Even at work, enjoy life. God is the One that holds every outcome in your life, not man. If He gave you that job, He will make sure you are blessed on that job. He is your Source. Your attitude of trust in God will begin to impact those around you. Prayer: Father, I give You praise this morning!
Thank You for Your truth that has removed the heaviness of stress from me. Life is short and refuse to worry about this job. I will do my best as unto You, and let You handle every outcome. Help me to have a good time at work and enjoy life. May my attitude of trust in You impact those I work with too. Declare this over your life today: I diligently obey God when I hear Him speak. Because I do, I seize the opportunities He provides.
I am blessed and blessings overtake me. I am blessed in the city and in the field. I am blessed in my coming and going. I am the lender and not the borrower. I am the head and not the tail. I am above only and not beneath. I am blessed in my body and in my mind.
The Lord daily opens His good treasures to me. He multiplies the work of my hands. I am a man with joy. The Lord surrounds me as a shield. The devil has no victory over me. Jesus is the author and finisher of my faith. The blessing of God is on my life. I am a blessed man! And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
Not only one, but two sparrows were sold for a coin at the time of this writing. Yet, these small birds were watched over and each of them accounted for by the Father. There are 43 species of the sparrow, and they abide on mostly every continent on the earth.
You are of more value than millions of sparrows. He cares about what you go through and He is there as you go through it. He also knows the very number of hairs that are on your head. Whether you still have them on your head or not, God counted each of them. Prayer: Father, thank You for caring about my life. You care about my purpose, my job situation, my marriage, my kids and everything that concerns me.
God if you care for the sparrows, you care for this man. If you know the hairs on my head, You surely care for this man. Jesus, I choose to not fear. The Father is watching over me. There is a difference between wanting something and actually doing what it takes to have it. I am seeing more and more that I am built to go the extra mile. I am built to run hard. We are built to go get what God has for us. The lazy man sits next to his dreams, waiting on them to happen. God wants you to be the diligent man that says I want it and will do what is required to get it.
His will is not that you only see it in your heart, but not experience it in your life. He wants to increase you. God wants to make you rich in all things. You may not know it all, but make a sincere effort to act on what you do know to do. God will step in, when you step out. God will step in and bless the work of your hands, providing grace and favor to help you. You can have it also.

Understand and rest assured that if God gave you the desire, it is yours to obtain. So go get it. Prayer: Father God, thank you for speaking directly to my heart and my situation. Your wisdom is perfect for me. I ask for a diligent spirit. I will not be afraid. Help me to get this done and may Your grace abound toward me. Be glorified in my life. You can have as much fruit as you want.
You can experience as much as you desire to experience, and there are no shortages and no limits. Glory to God! God meant for you to walk in as much love, joy and peace as you can handle. By the Spirit, you can have more self-control than you thought you could ever have. You can be kind and do good to other people all the time. You can draw from a well of longsuffering for the situations, and even the people, you need it for.
Begin to declare each fruit at work in your life. Begin to dwell in God, and sing praises unto the Lord and be filled with the Holy Spirit see Ephesians Allow the fruit of the Holy Spirit to reign and enjoy your life. Prayer: Father, You know the fruit that I need. I lean on You right now. Help me to walk in them and not be controlled by my flesh. As I praise and bless You, as I worship You today, fill me with the Holy Spirit, and allow the fruit of the Spirit to overflow and help me enjoy life. One or all of these could be you. Just as Jesus did, abiding in God my brother is where we belong.
He is the source of any fruit you are pursuing to bear in life, and He is how you live, move and have your being see Acts Humble yourself as a man and receive His mercy and grace with no shame. Let Him restore your soul. Let Him lead you. The Father still has a purpose for His son. Prayer: Father, I am before You this morning solely to seek You. Forgive me God. Help me to not to condemn myself. I receive Your mercy and grace.
Thank You Lord. May I set You in Your proper place and priority in my life. Mammon will have you miss the will of God. Mammon in the Greek means wealth and the gain of it is the basis this world system operates by. According to mammon, wealth is the key to your happiness and self-worth, therefore, live for it. Pursue it. Mammon says let money and material possessions be the sun in your life, and all that you are revolves around them.
Serve and worship me, not God. Either you will love and embrace the one, and hate and despise the other. The devil through mammon will always permanently promise what it only temporarily delivers, and ultimately leaves you empty and unhappy. Choose to love and embrace the Lord and His ways in your life. No matter how your finances look, remain strong and hold fast to seeking His kingdom and righteousness first, knowing the Father keeps His promises.
You will be happy when you choose God, and He financially increased you without having to compromise Who you serve. Prayer: Father, thank You for revealing to me the truth about mammon. I repent and choose to serve You. My life will revolve around the Son. I reject mammon and my happiness will not be based on money and things, but on You and Your will for me. God and His promises are always in front of you, not behind you.
You may have had setbacks. You may have lost it in your past, yet it will only be restored with an amazing God in your future. It is all ahead of you. This is a guarantee. It will not escape your hands. It will not and cannot elude you. It will be sitting there within the plan of God. People to help and bless will be awaiting you.
Wisdom and resources will be awaiting you. Opportunities, relationships and honor will be awaiting you. You will be restored and made new when you move forward. The perfect will of God is that you become who you are in Christ and that you live an abundant life. This is not a dangling carrot. This is not a place in Him you can only hope to obtain. With the leading of the Holy Spirit, you can arrive there. It is indeed a place, and you know when you are in it. You are fulfilled because you are pleasing the Father there.
You are producing for Him and you are the greatest blessing there. You have stepped into what God has called you to do for your life. He is calling you to this place of victory and you must now press into it. Ask the Lord from this day on, to help you live a forward life. Let go of the past, and move forward into what God has for you. Prayer: Father, thank You for Your Word. I ask that You to help me let go of the past and move forward into what You want me to be. I will not allow nothing to keep me from moving forward into every victory and every blessing that awaits me.
I ask for a focused mind and heart. My victory is in moving forward. Thank You Lord! When our minds have been somewhere else, He shows us He does when He puts a song on your heart. When he speaks and encourages you. When those moments we feel the least undeserving, the Lord blesses us. Even as men, we need to know that Someone loves us. God loves us with an everlasting love. It extends to no end. With His lovingkindness, He draws us into a place of repentance, surrender and change. Prayer: Father God, I thank you for your everlasting love that you show towards me every day. Thank you LORD.
I receive your love and mercy today and I pray that you will use me to show this same love to those in my life. He calls it like He sees it, not how it appears. It will be as He desires in your life, not your enemies. He says you who are before your life began. He calls you rich while you have a small amount in your hands. He calls your marriage fixed while it appears to be broken. He calls you strong when you feel weak. According to His will and ability, He calls it already done. Be like your heavenly Father.
Believe the battle is already won for you. Rejoice before anything happens. Say your financial needs are met before it materializes. Say you are healed, in spite of the symptoms. Say your marriage is fixed, even if it appears broken. Say you are strong and excel in all things, although you feel weak.
Call the way already made. Call it done! Confession: I will not dwell on the problem, but be a man of joy today and I will imitate my heavenly Father. I call it done! I call myself victorious! I call my marriage healthy and working. I call my financial needs met. I call my children blessed. I call my faith strong, and I thank God now for all He has promised me. I believe the battle is already won for me. I call it done in the name of Jesus, thank you Lord!
He wanted to know what would God do, so he set himself to hear from the Lord. God then responds, telling him to write the vision that I give you, make plain on tablets so they that read it, can run with it. Now is the time to set yourself to not only hear from God your vision, but to run with it. There may be a crooked generation around you, yet He will give you His vision, His will for your life, so that you can make an impact. Once He supplies it, write it down.
Do the practical step of writing whatever He speaks to you. When you have a vision, it is your vision. It is what you see. When you write it down clearly, you now are helping others to see it too—the people who God will send after you. God will gladly add to you the people you need, but a clear vision is required so they can run with you. Know and be encouraged to run and not get weary, because He will surely come to pass! Prayer: Father, You have a vision for my year and for my life. I desire to do my part to impact the world for Jesus. I set myself to know the vision You have for me.
Speak to me and help me to write it down plainly, so those that You send to me can run with it. I ask for the grace me to run with it. Are you expecting God to do something big? You can expect God to do something in your marriage, in your finances, in your children, in your mind, and your faith today. That is what He desires. He wants you to expect each day that He will exceed what you can ask or think in quantity see Ephesians Even when He leads you to obey today, know that He desires to bless you today.
He can do a lot with a mustard seed of faith that you put in Him. Prayer: Father, You are a great God that does great things. Jesus, you are my Shepherd, and I shall not want. You will move in my life today, and this brings me great joy.
Surely there is a future, and my hope will never be cut off. I believe it. Help me to stand expecting You to do a lot in my life today. As I awake, give me a hearing ear and a willing heart to follow You. Jacob was headed to Bethel, but he decided to stop on the way there and dwell in Shehem. When he did, several things happened to his family, his sons took several lives and his household became defiled.
God spoke to him again and reminded him of what he was supposed to do. Then, Jacob told his family we need to arise and go up to Bethel and he got back on track. Something took you off course and you are out of His will for your life. Somehow you have found yourself in a rough place and you are wondering why am I going through it and how can you get your life back on track again. You have to recognize how you have disobeyed Him or even left Him , refocus and revisit His will for you.
Pray and go back to the very last thing you remember the Lord instructed you do. Start from there, and like Jacob, God is merciful, gracious and will get you back on track. Prayer: Father help me. I know why all of this is happening in my life and I see why. I need to rise and go back to my Bethel. Show me where I have missed the mark, and help me by Your grace, get back into the center of Your will. You did it for Jacob and I thank You for doing it for me. Trials and temptation may come as you press forward, yet with God, just as the temptation or trial exists, there is always a way of escape that exists also, and nothing is too overpowering to keep you from it.
His grace abounds much more toward us. The Lord saves, and besides the Lord, there is no Savior. As we submit to His wisdom, He provides the way to life and favor already prepared for us.
Words of encouragement, stories with application, and insight into the Word of God
Be forward-minded and resolve all issues, fully aware of the bigger picture. Whether it is financially or relationally, when dilemmas happen, pray for the specific wisdom for the way out, which He freely gives. Thank You for helping me keep my eyes on the relationship I have with You. From this relationship, I draw strength to face any challenge and resist any temptation and trial. Thank You, Father, for Your promise to give me a way of escape from sin.
Guide me Lord and be glorified in my life. Study: Isaiah , Proverbs , Romans Up to seven times? Forgiving has the sole intent of setting our relationships back right again, just as God does with us. With the same mercy and goodness God commands to follow you Psalm , so God says allow it to freely function in your relationship with others, willing to always make things right—no matter the amount. Jesus gave his life and paid the ultimate price for our sin.
