Are you a native speaker? In my German class our professor told us that sometimes names will use a definite article. We have had several practice dialogues where a name was preceded by an article, "die Angela These sentences exist everywhere in Germany. All the other stuff I told and will tell you are in standard German.
I have never found a glas of Nutella with an article. There is a difference between: "Ich mag Bier. Ich mag Bier. While Ich mag das Bier. I'd like to add, that you'll still sometimes can find an article even for general statements about something:. Here it doesn't have to be a specific wine or group of women but wine and women in general. This is called " Personifikation " or "Vermenschlichung". I believe that is mostly used in Southern Germany as well as Switzerland and Austria, but I could be wrong. I don't recall where I heard that.
That could make sense. Our professor has told us on numerous occasions that he uses a Southern Germany dialect; he often tells us that when he is pronouncing something strange and a student asks what's going on. Vielleicht he could have used a grammar concept exclusive to his dialect. Oh well, using an article before a name shouldn't hinder communication. I can confirm that as native from the south. You'll also often hear it in spoken German - but again not everywhere.
I hadn't heard "Sacharja" before, but it's apparently just used in some German Bibles in the Old Testament.

I included the German "Sacharja", because I didn't want to assume that everyone in this community could read the English "Zachary" properly. I was only trying to be mindful. And thank you Abendbrot et al for articulating the difference between including the article versus omitting the article. Seeing the "ich mag Bier" versus the "ich mag das Bier" makes a lot of sense for me now. I was just commenting on my personal experience with the German version s of Zachary, I hope that didn't seem too rude or anything.
But the pronunciation of "Zacharias" in German "z" like "ts" and "ch" as in German "nach" is indeed a bit different from that of "Zachary" although most people should still be able to tell they're related.

Oh no. You weren't rude. I don't know how "Zachary" would be pronounced in German, so I just googled my name in German--I didn't know that it gave me "Zacharias" in German instead.
