Along the way, she cultivated hobbies in gardening, jewelry designing, creating delectable Indian fusion cuisine, but most of all, she endlessly encouraged my brother and me to pursue our dream.
She protected us from the uber-competitive mindset that Brown people tend to get into. She invested so much in me — I think maybe even too much. Fixing a vehicle, replacing broken and necessary items, furniture or appliances in ones home and sometimes just maintenance exspenses. I would put that money towards my savings and let it grow some more and use it towards my engagement party that is coming up in the summer.
Sounds silly but I already have all my needs covered, I still put money away into my RSVP every month and those are locked away into investments. I may rent but I rent a beautiful apartment that I take pride in living in. The only logical thing I could do is put it in savings for the time being and let it grow.

The other half I would use for wedding costs my parents are covering most of the cost, while I cover some. Put some in my financial freedom, put some on my self-improvement fund, basic needs, etc. Then with that, I can start cooking up a batch of home made bunt cakes my sister and I have been wanting to try to sell.
I would put half in Savings Acct. I would have to spend the other half to go see my daughter. I could put it towards my credit card debt, maybe half at least. Caring for my bedridden mother, currently finishing my degree, working two jobs, keen to work in child protection in developing nations — and yet struggling with a chronic illness — I need to set myself up for financial success. The cost for this will be minimal, just set up fees through an ecart. I have also created training systems for bookkeepers to help them set up and maintain and become profitable. I would like to purchase an additional site and pay for some minimal graphic design to get this up and going. In additional to site design and site purchase I will need to pay for an ecart. This will allow for monthly income with very little effort. My first reaction would be to use it for credit card debt which I must get rid of. I would offer part of it to my neighbor to purchase the first right of refusal on his house — I want my parents to move closer to my family in the next 5 years to help with the kids.
The rest I would invest in my IRA. Look, man: I have to escape the Alcatraz of being a lawyer grabbing you by the lapels, crazed look of desperation in my eyes. See you on the outside. The lab wants me there but lacks funding for an extra summer grad student. This research opportunity would allow me to learn things not available at my campus, to network with big thinkers in my field, and to learn new skills that will set me miles above my peers. My wife and I already have our accounts in good order, thanks to your book.
We have a nice little niche where we can develop our expertise. We need to update the interior and purchase some materials that can be used directly with the students. I will stock up on strings, manuscript paper, sheet music, etc and my wife can purchase books and evaluation tools. These three things that I have thought about and started from reading your emails and watching a couple webinars.

The cost is a little over 5, Me and my brother have never been there before and my parents havent seen their family since and my dream is to reunite them.
HI Ramit! By the time I got to college I had only a little idea on how to manage my money, and I definitely had a lot of help from my Dad but never took to managing my budget. I am now a Junior in college, I am double majoring, meaning I will probably be in school at least 3 more years and money is always tight. I am now rereading your book and trying to get better at handling money so I can stop worrying about it but the extra money would really help me out, I would use it as a jump start on managing correctly; sort of like starting fresh. Thanks, Ramit!! Been meaning to open one for over a year now — this would set me on the right track.

I would keep it separate from my other funds and only spend it on really notable items, such as a drink in the oldest pub in Ireland or on a boat to an island off the west coast.
This is going to sound boring, but I would use it to pay for repairs needed to the patio in the back yard. If anything was left over, I would use it to fill in the hole left in the back yard when a tornado went through and ripped up an old tree. I have some projects to work on outside this summer…. Either that or pay off my credit card.
He lost his job a week before their toddler daughter was diagnosed with leukemia. Hello there Ramit. I hope you and your family are well This is my first ever comment to be honest because you mentioned money. What you have here is a very interesting challenge. However I am not a risk take and would put the money somewhere safe so I am going to face my fears and buy shares have fun with it and see what happens.
From then on, every month will be more difficult for me to be disciplined about putting money into the things I need, because I will remember when it was taken care of for me. The mindset change from having one payment given to me would be disastrous. I currently brew with a friend of mine, and it is a lot of fun. My wife and I enjoy spending time relaxing with a good beer, and to have that time together each month would bring us together.
It will allow me to play my creative side in ways that my job will not. A home beer making kit is a luxury that is a little beyond what I can afford at this time, so having that extra money would provide a wonderful gift for me and the ones that I love. That way, when I go back to taking care of the things I need to be responsible for, I will be a little more ready to give it my best efforts.

Thank you for hours of interest and thought. I want the money to make more money so I would take the money and start a business. I would use it to set up my day trader account. Not because I need one, but because the big fridge boxes are so awesome!
As a family, we would donate the fridge to someone that our family agrees on that needs it, then we would make a fort. Just to enjoy the peace with our good sandwiches and each other away from distractions. Boxes make the best forts. If I were to recieve an extra thousand and one dollars I would use it to accelerate debt payoff. It is not as exciting as travel or fancy things but I can do so much more fun stuff once the debt is gone. I would start a Roth IRA or some kind investment account. I am 23 with a new full-time job and I know that it is necessary to get my investments started, automated and building up through the next few years.
I just started my K with my new job and am ready to make the next step towards a smart future. I am trying to pay for my college tuition so I can become a special education teacher. I have to take summer classes in order to graduate on time and I am paying for it on my own. Every little bit helps. Invest half of it into a minimalist hat product line that I have a prototype model for first batch order and trademark fees. The other half would go into a new suit…my current line of work does not require nice clothing, and I want to switch jobs.
I feel vastly under-dressed and need to invest in a good suit. This will help me step up my game! Currently I am a high school senior who cannot afford to go directly into college, so I am going to a community college to save up money, and then I will transfer into a university. Last but not least, for whatever I have left, I would like to use it to buy my family a gift or two, to show my appreciation for their patience and support on the somewhat reckless decisions I have made throughout my school years.
Thanks to your website, I have high hopes on becoming a part-time freelancer. Although I am young and I have not paid for any of your services, your free materials are exceptional, especially since it does not require any money to see your livestreams, articles, and videos. In fact, your video on interviewing helped me to get a scholarship! Keep up the excellent work, Ramit! I would use it to sign up for IWT course on how to start a side-business!
Seriously, that is what I would do. I will deposit it in my savings account, earmarked for my 6-month trip around Europe starting this summer. This will help me meet my savings goal. Being Asian, I started automating finances around the age of 3 so basic finances and funds for donations are in good shape. After Ramit wrote about the scripts that we have in the back of our minds, I started analyzing them and deciding what I wanted to do with them. For the ones that lead to positive outcomes it is easy, keep them. For bad ones, once they become conscious, along with their negative effects, work on adjusting them.
And then there are a bunch that are not overly positive or negative in and of themselves but how you manage them determines the effects. It is these with which I have been experimenting, using the automatic effortless nature as an advantage. What starts as an unconscious neutral habit converts to a more conscious constructive one.
It is similar to putting weights in front of TV. Use the automatic habit to trigger a different behavior. End result? It also revealed beliefs I had about the value of money depending on how I earned it, if I earned it, where it came from, spending Euros vs. USD etc. When I feel good physically, I am far more productive, yet the script says it is a frivolous indulgence to have more than one every 4 weeks. Repeat until home is as streamlined as I want it to be I prefer not owning a ton of clutter.
Am already minimalist by nature so this choice has a good chance of being a win for both me and a worthy charity. Its been 5 years that we are married. I had a son after one year. We spent two years of our salaries in paying loans, credit card bills, other liabilities… and there was 0 saving. This was despite the fact that both my husband and I were earning a decent package. Then we really started saving for a house…. Spending money on vacations when that could have been utilised for buying house made both of us guilty.
If i win this i would really want to have a family holiday really soon….. I would buy myself some premium dog food! I would promote my twitter account to get more followers… All i have is twitter… Sometimes the life of a dog is boring… Please follow me MachoTheMinPin on Twitter! Thanks for putting up this contest. The remainder would go into buying a few pure silver coins to have around in case of global financial emergency i. Save it to a savings account to be ready for when I start my own company! Which will be this year…or next at the latest!
This money will go directly to ensure the event happens, and will be multiplied 60 times over in economic benefit to the region via cycling related activities and tourism. This is a big question…. But because I want to learn from your Earn 1K program but at the moment have credit card debts…..
Well I have started a new business so far no overhead. I still need some things finished and only do what I can with money on hand pay as I go. Im going to school, working a full time job and my husband has cancer its tough but I keep on going. Either way, I would be very, very grateful. The film tells the story of community activists in HK and China and how they are advocating for more equitable urban development. I just came back from a 3 month sabbatical abroad. Good times indeed: I got to meet my distant relatives, ate good food, and spent some time interviewing and getting video footage of young community organizers.
It is mostly for fun, but a way to summarize my experience. The film will be shown at a Ted-X event targeting young people in August. I have no filming experience, so I want to put some money into hiring a professional film editor to work with me to execute my vision. I am currently trying to launch my own small startup and am looking for advice from older local industry leaders.
I would use this money to take as many of them out individually for lunch or coffee as possible — an attempt to gather their insights and pick their brain for things they wish they had known when just starting out.
